i wasn’t planning on peering into an active volcano when i made plans to drive up through the mountains of kyushu, but that’s exactly what happened. not sure what i expected to feel before physically seeing it, but while i was there standing on the ledge, peering into the belly of this smoking beauty, i felt something. nature has a way of bringing you back down to earth, and humbling you. i think that’s why i enjoy photographing landscapes, and nature so much. it’s nice to reset mentally every now and then.
